WATCH GOLD PLATING

Gold plating
for watches
worth keeping.

We first assess watch cases, bezels, bracelets, folding clasps and suitable metal parts. Suitable components are then professionally prepared and gold plated to match real use.

For watches worth keeping Worn.
Restored.

Worn plating, dull case surfaces or an uneven bracelet do not have to mean the end of a favorite watch. We assess what can be restored, how the original character can be preserved and which gold build-up fits the watch.

The safe way to gold plate your watch

First we assess. Then you decide.

For the first step, your watch stays with you. Clear photos are enough for us to assess the watch, define the scope and send you an offer. Only after your approval is disassembly arranged and the watch parts sent in.

Disassembled watch with bracelet, case and bezel on graph paper for a LAFFARTS assessment
Photos are enough to start. Photograph the complete watch, case, bezel, bracelet, clasp and worn areas. Disassembly is arranged only after the offer is accepted.
01

Send photos

Send clear photos of the complete watch and the areas to be refinished. This is enough for the first assessment.

02

Receive assessment & offer

We assess the visible condition, relevant components and desired result. You receive a clear offer and know the next steps before sending anything in.

03

Choose the disassembly route

Once you accept the offer, the watch is professionally disassembled. You can use your own watchmaker or ask LAFFARTS to coordinate the watchmaker step for you.

With your own watchmakerThe watch is disassembled there and the agreed metal parts are sent to LAFFARTS. Coordinated by LAFFARTSWe arrange the watchmaker step with you and coordinate the route before anything is shipped.
04

Send the watch parts

Only the agreed metal parts are required for the gold plating, for example the case, bezel, bracelet and clasp. Movement, crystal and seals stay with the watchmaker.

05

Refinish & gold plate

The parts are prepared according to the agreed result and professionally gold plated. Gold tone and surface finish are coordinated to the watch.

06

Inspection, return & reassembly

After final inspection, the finished parts are returned securely. Reassembly is carried out by your watchmaker or according to the watchmaker route previously coordinated with LAFFARTS.

You stay in control Photos first. Offer next. Disassembly only after approval.

You do not need to organize a watchmaker before you know whether and how the gold plating makes sense for your watch.

Preserve what makes the watch special

Refinished to suit the watch, not simply to look new.

With vintage watches, Cartier Tank and Vermeil cases, bracelets and bezels, the result depends on more than the gold tone. We consider the visible condition, case shape, edges, contact areas and intended use so the finished watch still feels coherent and true to its character.

Have watch assessed
Appearance

Preserve the original character

Gold tone, edges and proportions are considered together so the watch continues to look like the watch you value.

Function

Fits and moving areas matter

Contact surfaces, moving parts and sensitive transitions are included in the assessment before the watch parts are refinished.

Recommendation

Matched to your watch

Condition, component, existing finish and intended wear determine how the surface is prepared and gold plated.

Atelier standard

A watch is more than a visible surface.

Good watch gold plating begins with a precise assessment of the watch and its visible surfaces. We assess case, bracelet, clasp, material, use and desired effect before any disassembled watch part enters the atelier.

01 · Surface Preparation decides.

Polishing, cleaning and preparation decide whether the gold layer can look clean.

02 · Layer build-up Gold build-up matched to the component.

We match the build-up to the watch: original finish, component geometry, fits, contact areas and intended wear all matter.

03 · Security Personal assessment before shipping.

Watch case, bezel, bracelet and clasp are assessed by photo first. This allows preparation, gold tone and build-up to be coordinated before shipment.

Questions before your inquiry

What matters before a watch is gold plated.

Clear answers before you send anything in. Photos are enough for the first assessment.

Can every watch be gold plated?

No. Material, existing coatings, construction and technical areas must be assessed first. Photos are enough to begin.

Does the watch need to be disassembled?

Yes. We gold plate only professionally disassembled, electroplating-suitable metal parts. Movement, crystal and seals must not be sent in. If you do not have a watchmaker, disassembly can be coordinated after consultation.

Which watch parts can be gold plated?

Depending on material and construction: case, bezel, bracelet, folding clasp, clasp and suitable crowns or pushers. Each component is assessed separately.

Can only one worn spot be touched up?

Spot touch-ups are generally not a clean technical solution. We plan the relevant component as a complete surface so the finish remains coherent.

How is the gold build-up chosen for my watch?

We consider the existing finish, watch component, geometry, contact areas, condition and intended use. This lets us coordinate the build-up to the individual watch and its appearance.

How much does watch gold plating cost?

Price depends on surface area, number of components, condition, preparation, geometry and gold thickness. After reviewing photos, you receive an individual offer before shipment.

Which gold tones are available?

You can choose between 14 ct, 18 ct and 24 ct yellow-gold tones. We help match the tone to the watch and the desired appearance.

Can a Cartier Tank or Must de Cartier Vermeil be gold plated again?

With vintage Cartier Tank and Vermeil cases, the existing finish, base material, case geometry, edges and condition are assessed first. Photos are enough for the first evaluation and the next step is then coordinated with you.

How does shipping work?

After approval, the professionally disassembled parts are shipped in. Shipping is insured and trackable. The parts are documented, processed, checked and returned securely.

Gold layer system

Not only gold tone. A layer system that fits real use.

The visible color is only one part of the decision. Preparation, adhesion, intermediate layers and gold thickness by use matter.

Base

Understand the material.

Stainless steel, brass, base metals and existing coatings behave differently on watch parts.

Preparation

Prepare the surface.

Cleaning, polishing, edges, fits and transitions decide how clean the plating looks.

Layer build-up

Check adhesion and barrier layer.

Depending on the piece, a technical intermediate layer can be sensible.

Gold

Gold build-up for the watch.

The final build-up follows the existing finish, component, geometry, contact areas and intended wear. Vintage and collector watches receive particular attention to case character and visible proportions.

One photo clarifies the path.

A clear photo gives us the first direction. Clear photos often show whether preparation, complete replating or an additional technical check is sensible.

For watch cases, bezels, bracelets, clasps and suitable watch components.

Material, condition and later use determine how the surface is prepared and rebuilt.

Start with photos

Show us the watch. We clarify the next step.

Whether watch case, bracelet, smartwatch housing or wall clock: send clear photos and receive a personal assessment before anything is shipped.
