Ship jewelry safely

Send a photo. Ship safely.

If a ring, watch part, chain or special item is to be gold plated, the first step does not have to be a parcel. Send a photo first. We assess material, condition, risk and the appropriate shipping route before you send anything valuable.

Photograph a ring before shipping – prepare jewelry safely for gold plating
Before shippingOne photo reduces uncertainty.

We can often tell in advance whether sending the piece in makes sense and what to consider when packing it.

The safe process

Do not send anything blindly that can be clarified first.

Many customers are unsure: How should I pack an heirloom? Does a watch need to be disassembled? What about stones, clasps or larger metal parts? This page answers those questions and creates a clear route from the first photo to insured return shipping.

01 Send a photoOne clear photo is often enough for an initial assessment.
02 Receive guidanceWe tell you whether sending the piece in makes sense and what should be prepared.
03 Ship safelyOnly then is the piece packed, documented and shipped appropriately.
How it should arrive

Separated, protected and clearly documented.

Jewelry pieces should not knock against each other in the parcel. Watch parts and special items need clear identification. The better the condition is documented before shipping, the more accurately we can assess, quote and return the piece.

Pack jewelry safely – protect ring and chain separately
PackagingProtect each piece individually.

Pack rings, chains and pendants separately. Avoid rubbing and loose parts.

Shipping by item value

Up to €500: DHL. Above that: insured value shipping.

The correct shipping route is based not on the size of a piece, but on its actual value. This keeps the process clear and ensures the insurance level matches the item.

Up to €500 item value

DHL with tracking.

For pieces valued up to €500, regular DHL parcel shipping is the standard route. Pack the piece neutrally and securely so that it cannot move inside the parcel.

suitable up to €500 item value use shipment tracking pack jewelry pieces separately and protect them from impact
Above €500 item value

Specialized insured value shipping.

If the item value exceeds €500, choose insured value shipping. This provides transport protection appropriate to the higher value so that valuable jewelry or high-value watch parts are not treated like an ordinary parcel.

for item values above €500 choose insurance appropriate to the confirmed value especially suitable for high-value watches, heirlooms and one-of-a-kind pieces
01Send a photo and have the piece assessed.
02Confirm quote and scope.
03Choose shipping appropriate to the item value.
04Atelier intake, work and safe return shipping.
What would you like to send in?

Three routes, one goal: a safe assessment.

Jewelry

Ring, chain, bracelet or pendant

Photograph contact points, settings, loops and wear first. We then clarify the gold layer, price range and shipping.

Have a ring assessed
Watches

Case, bracelet or watch parts

Please send only the agreed parts. Movement, crystal and seals should not be placed in the parcel without prior agreement.

Have watch parts assessed
Special items

Emblems, fittings, hookah parts, hardware

Show dimensions, base material, existing coating and visible surfaces first. Large or sensitive parts require clear preparation.

Request assessment for a special item
Check bracelet contact areas – assess wear before gold plating
JewelryMake wear visible.

Edges, undersides and contact points are especially important for the recommendation.

Prepare jewelry

What we need to see before you ship.

Photo 1

Overall view

Photograph the entire piece in daylight. No filters and no strong reflections.

Photo 2

Problem area

Show wear, scratches, stones, settings, loops or clasps close up.

Do not polish beforehand

No last-minute repair attempt.

Do not clean aggressively or sand the piece yourself. Its current condition is part of the assessment.

Pack separately

No rubbing inside the parcel.

Wrap each piece separately in soft material and secure it against movement.

Watches and watch parts

With watches, preparation is essential for precision.

A complete watch should not simply be sent in like ordinary jewelry. Case, bracelet, bezel or crown are agreed in advance. Movement, crystal, seals and sensitive components should only be included after clear agreement.

01
Photograph the partsShow case, bracelet, bezel, crown and critical edges separately.
02
Clarify disassemblyDo not risk disassembling anything yourself when a watchmaker or our atelier should assess it first.
03
Send only what is neededDo not include unnecessary boxes, papers, movements or accessories.

Watch partsDocumented, not guessed.

The more clearly the parts are separated in advance, the clearer the work scope becomes.

Special items

Emblems, fittings and metal parts need dimensions.

For larger or technical parts, jewelry-style information is not enough. We need photos from several angles, dimensions, material information and a clear indication of which visible surfaces should be gold plated.

Prepare the parcel

Turn a valuable piece into a safely shipped parcel.

After our assessment, pack the piece so that it cannot move or rub inside the parcel and can be clearly identified. For valuable or emotionally important pieces, insured shipping with tracking is the appropriate route.

Inside

Soft and secure

Wrap each part separately, fill empty spaces and prevent movement.

Outside

Neutral and sturdy

Use a sturdy, securely closed box with no external indication of value.

Document atelier intake – inspect jewelry at LAFFARTS
At the atelierReceive, inspect, document.

This is not just another parcel. It is your piece.

When it arrives with us

We assess more than the gold finish – we assess the route to it.

After arrival, the piece is inspected and assigned to the workshop process. Condition, material, contact areas and desired result determine whether the planned gold plating remains appropriate or whether we contact you first.

Return shipping

At the end, both the gold finish and the experience should feel right.

After the work is complete, your piece is protected again and returned using the appropriate shipping route. The goal is a clear, calm process from the first assessment to the moment you hold the piece again.

Gold-plated jewelry safely returned – ring and chain in case
Back to youReturned protected. Ready to be worn.

The return journey is part of the service, not left to chance.

Please avoid

These mistakes make shipping unnecessarily risky.

Loose together

Several pieces in one bag.

This causes rubbing, scratches and mix-ups.

Too many extras

Boxes, papers and extras.

Send only what is actually needed for the work.

No photos

Parcel first, questions later.

This makes assessment less reliable and can cause delays.

Disassembling it yourself

Risking watches or settings.

Ask first rather than risk damaging a sensitive part.
